This guide provides general information. Confirm the exact vehicle, charger datasheet, site conditions and current local requirements before purchase or installation.

How AC charging works

AC power is supplied to the vehicle, where its onboard charger converts it for battery charging. The actual rate is limited by the lowest relevant limit among the supply, EVSE and vehicle onboard charger.

How DC charging works

A DC fast charger converts power outside the vehicle and supplies DC to the battery through the vehicle's supported charging interface. The vehicle's battery management system controls the charging process and can reduce power as state of charge or temperature changes.

Which should you choose?

Home and workplace parking often suits AC charging where the car remains parked for longer. DC charging is useful where higher throughput or shorter stops matter, but the site needs suitable electrical infrastructure and the vehicle must support the connection.

  • Check vehicle acceptance and connector
  • Consider dwell time and daily energy demand
  • Assess electrical capacity and installation cost
  • Compare total installed cost, not just charger price
